Universities of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center (UGMLC)
The UGMLC is made up of three site partners:
- Justus-Liebig-University Giessen
- Philipps-University Marburg
- Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research, Bad Nauheim
In the research focus of the UGMLC are the molecular signal pathways involved in the emergence of inflammatory and hyperproliferative diseases of the lung and the airways, particularly in asthma and COPD, pneumonia, pneumogenic sepsis and ARDS, lung carcinoma, pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary fibrosis. To develop innovative therapy concepts, connections between the signal pathways will be studied that are crucial for the development of the lung in embryos.
It is the aim of the group to develop better molecular-based diagnostics and individual therapy of lung and airway diseases.
The Director of the UGMLC group and Chairman of the Board and Speaker for the DZL is Prof. Dr. Werner Seeger (Director of the Lung Center and the Medical Clinic II, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen); the scientific and administrative site coordination is the responsibility of Dr. Sylvia Weißmann.
