4th Expert Forum on Pulmonary Fibrosis at the MHH

On August 15, Prof. Dr. Antje Prasse, Head of the pulmonary fibrosis outpatient clinic of the Clinic for Pulmonology at Hannover Medical School (MHH), hosted the expert forum on pulmonary fibrosis. The event for clinicians and pulmonologists was organized in collaboration with BREATH, the Hanoverian site of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL).

Prof. Dr. Tobias Welte, director of the clinic of pulmonology at MHH, opened the evening with a review of the past influenza season, which kept MHH's pyhsicians busy for many weeks. Despite the relatively low effectiveness of last year's triple-flu vaccine financed by the health insurance companies, he made a clear appeal to the medical colleagues and their staff not to underestimate the importance of the flu vaccine.

As always, an update by Professor Prasse on the latest research findings in the field of pulmonary fibrosis as well as the presentation of various case studies from the pulmonary fibrosis outpatient clinic of the MHH were the main focus of the event. To resolve particularly challenging cases, the pulmonologists work together with pathologists and radiologists. Together, the physicians presented cases from the pulmonaty fibrosis outpatient clinic, which could be successfully clarified only with the combined expertise of the different disciplines.

This year, the event took place for the 4th time and was as always well attended. The experts, most of them scientists within the DZL, were available after the case presentations for an animated exchange on various aspects of pulmonary fibrosis.

The next expert forums will take place in autumn 2018 on the topics of rare diseases as well as rheumatology and pneumology.

The pulmonary fibrosis expert forum was held with the kind support of Roche.
