Prof. Dr. Naftali Kaminski is one of the world's leading scientists in the field of pulmonary fibrosis. He maintains a large collaboration partner network, which also includes Prof. Dr. Antje Prasse, head of the pulmonary fibrosis research group at the Fraunhofer ITEM and head of the fibrosis outpatient clinic at the MHH’s pulmonology department. In his lecture, which took place at a DZL colloquium, Prof. Kaminski reported on the latest research results in the field of pulmonary fibrosis.
His lecture focused on his findings on the mechanisms of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) formation and, in particular, the role of microRNAs in the profibrotic lung. In a unique approach, the research group headed by Prof. Kaminski is currently developing a cell atlas on pulmonary fibrosis by means of high-throughput OMICS technologies using single cell sequencing. This will lead to a better understanding of the molecular causes of the cellular and regional heterogeneity within the IPF lung.
