BREATH scientist Dr. Carola Voss receives the Rudolf Buchheim Award 2026

BREATH scientist and Emmy Noether junior research group leader Dr. Carola Voss has been awarded the Rudolf Buchheim Award 2026. She received the prestigious distinction for her publication “Toward a ToxAtlas of Carbon-Based Nanomaterials: Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Reveals Initiating Cell Circuits in Pulmonary Inflammation”, which had previously been featured in a separate news article on our website. The study provides important new insights into the cellular mechanisms underlying inflammatory processes in the lung and establishes a foundation for a better understanding of the respiratory effects of nanomaterials. The underlying research was conducted in close collaboration with Dr. Lianyong Han from the DZL site CPC-Munich and additional international scientists.

The Rudolf Buchheim Award, endowed with EUR 1,500, is presented by the German Society for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology and is considered one of the most prestigious awards for early-career scientists in this field. It recognizes outstanding scientific publications in experimental and clinical pharmacology and toxicology, with a particular emphasis on innovative approaches and methodological excellence.

The award highlights the high scientific quality of Dr. Voss’s work and its relevance to biomedical research. At the same time, it underscores the importance of modern single-cell analyses for understanding complex disease processes.

We warmly congratulate Carola Voss on this achievement and wish her and her research group continued success in their future research endeavors.
