A packed auditorium at the 24th Hannover Vaccination Symposium

On Saturday, 30 November, the Clinic for Pneumology together with BREATH, the Hannover site of the German Center for Lung Research, hosted the Hannover Vaccination Symposium, being held for the 24th time within the framework of the Competence Center of Infectious Diseases at the MHH.

At the well supported symposium with over 100 participating doctors, Prof. Dr. Tobias Welte greeted the guests by presenting innovations in the field of tuberculosis vaccination, vaccination against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) that causes cold-like symptoms and further development of the pertussis and Haemophilus influenzae vaccine. Despite difficult circumstances concerning the design, conduct and financing of pivotal trials for new vaccines, Prof. Welte also advised to bear in mind that vaccination still remains the best prevention. Naturally there would be no effects in biology without side effects, but the overall balance with vaccination is definitely positive. Further experts reported on innovations in vaccinations against influenza, pneumococci, Herpes zoster (shingles) and in vaccinating immunosuppressed patients. We would like to thank the speakers: Dr. Tom Schaberg, Dr. Martin Wetzke, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Baumann, Dr. Andreas Leischker, Prof. Dr. Steffen Stenger and Prof. Dr. Tobias Welte, as well as the sponsors from industry who, through their financial support, have once again made the Vaccination Symposium possible this year.
