Autumn Meeting of the German Respiratory Society (DGP) in Hannover

The Cell Biology Section and Infectiology and Tuberculosis Section of the German Respiratory Society (DGP) held their Autumn Meeting at the Clinical Research Center in Hannover on 11 and 12 November. For many years, this annual meeting has offered young scientists a forum for the presentation of their own results and the opportunity to share information with each other.

This year, the scientific coordination was carried out by scientists and clinicians from Hannover Medical School (MHH) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine (Fraunhofer ITEM), Prof. Dr. Antje Prasse, Prof. Dr. Jens Hohlfeld, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Maus and Dr. Felix Ringshausen, all scientists within the German Center for Lung Research site in Hannover, BREATH.

More than 40 of the approximately 60 participants from all over Germany presented their work in presentations and posters. The spectrum of topics was very broad, covering asthma and allergies, COPD and emphysema, infections and autoimmune diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, stem cells and lung regeneration. The Poster Session, following the dinner, was very well received and the work presented led to animated discussions.

In the Keynote Lectures, two habilitated scientists already advanced in their careers, Dr. Ruth Olmer, stem cell researcher, and Dr. Mark Philipp Kühnel, member of the lung research group in the Institute of Pathology, both at the MHH, enthralled the young audience.
