International Recognition: Dr. Carola Voss and Dr. Beate Hagl Receive Funding for Research on Job Syndrome
This funding is part of the international program of the Job Research Foundation, which is dedicated to significantly advancing research into the so-called Job Syndrome (also known as STAT3 Hyper-IgE Syndrome, STAT3-HIES). This rare syndrome is a multisystem immunodeficiency characterized by a wide range of complex symptoms – including recurrent infections, eczema, lung complications, and skeletal abnormalities. To date, there is no curative therapy, which makes both basic and translational research in this area particularly important.
A central focus of Dr. Voss’s research group is the application and further development of organoids – miniaturized, lab-grown organ models. These models allow researchers to study complex cellular processes of patients with rare diseases like Job Syndrome under controlled conditions. In particular, lung-specific organoid models are used to better understand disease-specific changes and test potential therapeutic approaches.
With the newly approved follow-up funding, the team aims to build on the insights gained during the first funding phase to further explore how lung changes in Job Syndrome patients can be identified early and treated effectively. “The continuation of this funding enables us to specifically investigate new approaches for the prevention and treatment of pulmonary complications in Job Syndrome – with the goal of developing evidence-based strategies that can ultimately be translated into clinical practice,” says DZL-PI Carola Voss.
We warmly congratulate Dr. Carola Voss on this outstanding achievement and wish her and the entire research team continued success in implementing this important project!
