Hannover Medical School (MHH), the Fraunhofer-Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine (ITEM) and the Center for Health Economics Research of the Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) offer a wide spectrum of areas of activity in the field of lung research. At the BREATH site, a total of 46 Principal Investigators, 45 Phd students and more than 50 further scientist and non-scientific employees from the three institutions work together on the projects of the DZL.
A large number of scientists, post-docs, PhD students and non-scientific personnel are financed directly by the DZL.

At the BREATH partner sites MHH and Fraunhofer ITEM numerous PhD and doctoral students are conducting research in the broad field of lung research.
Several PIs are supervising young scientists on their way to becoming a Dr. rer. nat. or Dr. rer. biol. hum. and provide them with employment as scientists. The field of interest of individual PIs can be explored at the BREATH Faculty site.
Another option are the PhD programs offered at the MHH's Hannover Biomedical Research School (HBRS).
