First Presentation of the Tobias Welte Memorial Award

In coordination with the German Respiratory Society (DGP), the patient magazine Luftpost has established a new annual award. In recognition and appreciation of his outstanding contributions, the award is named the “Tobias Welte Memorial Award of Luftpost”, honoring the late Professor of the Hannover Medical School, who passed away last year.

The inaugural award ceremony took place during the 65th DGP Congress in Leipzig, as part of the solemn “Prof. Tobias Welte Memorial Symposium” on April 11, 2025, in the main hall of the Leipzig Congress Center. The event served as a moving tribute to the life and work of this globally respected scientist and former president of both the DGP and the European Respiratory Society, who was always empathetic, humane, and deeply committed to his patients.

The first recipient of the award was the Working Group for Pulmonary Exercise in Germany (AG Lungensport in Deutschland e.V.), which has been dedicated for 25 years to promoting this non-pharmacological but highly beneficial and motivating approach to improving the condition and quality of life of those affected.
